Soup On A Stoop

We had a light dinner on the way to the movies. There is a great vegan restaurant that Donna found called Angelica's. Sunday night was our second visit this weekend. Since we were in a hurry we each got a bowl of soup to go. After making another quick stop for a beer, we had our dinner sitting on a stoop and drinking beer out of a paper bag.

Coney Island

It was cold and windy, but we visited Coney Island anyways. We walked out on the beach and then down the very long boardwalk.

Shopping

We did a bit of shopping.

Chanel Mobile Art Show

The next morning we got up at 6am (that is 4am MST) to stand in line for free tix to the Chanel art show.

Off Broadway Show

Donna is afraid that she will be put on entertainment probation after taking me to see this show. It was . . . amusing. I described it as a Korean adaptation of Keystone Cops meet Godzilla with a hip-hop twist.

Thai Restaurant

We had Thai food for dinner Saturday night before going to the show.

Strawberry Fields Forever.

Just a short distance inside Central Park, and near the Dakota (where John Lennon lived and died), is Strawberry Field. This is the monument to John Lennon.

Tkts Tkts Tkts

We bought tickets for an Off Broadway show. Donna, being a former resident of NYC, knew the right location to get us half-price tickets without waiting in a huge line. In fact there was no line at all.

St John the Divine - outside

Here is the outside of St John the Divine.

St John the Divine

Yesterday we visited St John the Divine. Donna tells me that the construction on the church was begun in the late 20's but was interrupted by the Depression. It is gothic style and still in the process of being built. It is possibly the only gothic architecture project still under construction.

Central Park again

Yay! We made it to NYC! And to Central Park. Did I mention that we are staying directly across the street? Remind me to tell you about our "Amazing Race" adventure on the way to NYC.

The colors were incredible this time of year. Fall was in full bloom.

NYC - Helmsley Park Lane Hotel

This is our hotel on this trip to NYC. It is the Helmsley Park Lane and it is located across the street from Central Park, and a few doors down the street from the famous Plaza Hotel. With a corporate rate of $300 per night it was much more expensive than we normally get.

For that price, we got a room with a king sized bed, and a view of the city from the 20th floor. Each morning we were delivered a newspaper on our door handle. At night, with our turn-down service, we were left several chocolates on the nightstand. The concierge gave us a map of Central Park. And Monday morning, I only had to step out to the curb and they waved a cab over for me.
