Bainbridge Island & Pike Place Market

Our lunch on the last day was taken on Bainbridge Island. We rode a ferry over from Pier 50 near Pike Place Market. The ferry took about 35 minutes. We picnicked in a park. Then rode the ferry back. This picture is near our picnic site. They had palm trees there.

Following this we went to Pike Place Market for some shopping. I bought some tea. Donna bought some apple butter and pumpkin butter. Unfortunately, the butters were confiscated at the airport because they were in our carry-on and they were over the 3 oz. limit on liquids/gels. Very disappointing. Donna also picked up a bouquet of flowers for our hostess whose birthday was this weekend.

After running a few more errands, our vacation was over and we caught a late night flight back to Denver - arriving around midnite.

Pete's Eggnest

Our last day in Seattle and we started with breakfast at Pete's Eggnest. Donna had a greek omelet. I had hash browns and toast. The restaurant is like a family-run diner. It was rather quiet by the time we arrived. There were only about 5 other tables of diners. We heard comments about how quiet it was. I have been told that it is usually crowded and loud. It's obviously a popular place for breakfast. With good reason too. The food was good. Of course, how can you go wrong with a plate of potatoes. But still . . . Donna's omelet looked excellent, and she nearly finished the entire thing, which was quite large.

This restaurant was just a couple blocks from the house where we were staying. Very convenient.

Phinney Ridge

Here is a shot of the neighborhood. Does it rain in Seattle? Well, of course.

Shilshole Bay

Here is another picture from that beach. We were waiting for the sunset.

This, I believe, is Shilshole Bay beach. Donna may correct me. However, I do know that it was a beach we strolled after returning from our excursion to Canada.

International Border

Another signpost along the side of the road while waiting to cross the border. Click on the photo(s) to see a larger version. This one says "Canada" on one side and "International Border" on another.

Re-Entering the USA

Peace Arch

The next day, Sunday, after spending the morning with Sarah at the Vancouver Aquarium, we headed back to the USA and to Seattle. Entering Canada was jiffy fast - no wait at all. But getting back into the USA put us into a crawling traffic jam that lasted nearly 45 minutes. Families set their children loose in the grassy area alongside the road. They got to run and play and later catch up with their ride for the passage over the border. Others were reading books, listening to music. I took some pictures. This one is the Peace Arch on the Canadian side.

The visit in Canada was short. It was very short. But we had a good time. I got to see the city in the daylight this time. The weather was beautiful and sunny. I saw probably every bridge in the city - quite a feat for a gephyrophobiac. And we visited the Aquarium, where we saw some beautiful beluga whales, cu-u-ute otters, and some playful seals.

Vancouver - October 13th

We took a drive thru Stanley Park. It's a rather large park in Vancouver. The Vancouver Aquarium is there, which we visited the next day. But on Saturday, our 1st day there, we toured the park by car, saw the views of the water (English Bay, Burrard Inlet), the Hollow Tree, some statues, and these Totem Poles.

The other happy couple. This is Donna and I.

Visiting

This is my daughter and her boyfriend. Don't they look happy?

Canada

October 13th - We are entering Canada. This day of our vacation in Seattle we are driving up to Vancouver BC to visit my daughter and her boyfriend. It took us only 2.5 hours to get there from Seattle.
